William Hill SPFL 2: Samuel’s side start season at StranraerThe Spartans kick off their campaign with a 260-mile round trip to Stranraer as Douglas Samuel leads his charges into their second season in the William Hill SPFL 2. After a positive start to the 2024/25 competitive fixture card topping the Premier Sports Cup Group E table, attentions are now focussed on the beginning of the bread and butter. Both Blairs – Carswell and Henderson – will be keen to replicate their recent Cup performances as the 36 game competition gets underway. The Cat coming into the match on the back of a hat-trick of clean sheets, whilst Henderson have netted five times in all seven outings including friendlies thus far. Games between the sides last season at Stair Park were arguably two of the most enthralling of the season, proper humdingers played in inclement conditions and producing goals and drama galore throughout. And there’s no doubt that Saturday’s season opener has the potential to be no different. Our hosts of course pulled off the Houdini at the end of last season with a late play-off victory over East Kilbride to secure their place in SPFL 2, with one of the most enjoyable commentary team around sure enjoying the moment on the Club’s highlights reel. However, a new season is here and it’s been an indifferent start for Stranraer however with dangerman Ryan Edgar finding the net with some consistency, there’s no doubt the hosts will be looking for home advantage to play its part in shaping the final result Kick-off at Stair Park is 3.00pm. Admission: Adult £15, Concession (over 65) £10, Youth (5 to 16) £5, Under 5 FREE. Pay at the gate. Pavilion Bar open to all from 1pm. There will also be a half-time performance by the Lochryan Highland Dance Events Group! Elsewhere in League 2: Bonnyrigg Rose v Peterhead, Edinburgh City v Stirling Albion, Elgin City v East Fife and Forfar Athletic v Clyde. |
