SPFL 2: Samuel reaches magic milestone in penultimate league matchThe Spartans welcome fellow Play-Off contenders Peterhead to Ainslie Park in potentially their penultimate meeting of the season this Saturday. With just two games left to play to decide the final placings in the SPFL 2 table which will dictate the Play-Off fixtures, the sides will lock horns for the fifth time this year – and a further two games could potentially be on the cards come May! PFA Player of the Year nominee Blair Henderson has been an integral part of Spartans success over Peterhead this season, scoring in the Via Play tie way back in July and also netting the winner when the sides last met at Balmoor Stadium in January. Looking at the form guide over the last six outings for both sides, there’s been a mix of outcomes, with draws being the go-to result, Peterhead on four and Spartans earning three. Within those matches however, Spartans have recorded four clean sheets compared to Peterhead’s solitary shut-out. Three big points in determining who opens their Play-Off where and against whom are up for grabs and we’re looking forward to a big Spartan Army support getting behind the boys. Remember, any of our fellow Edinburgh-based senior club supporters holding season tickets for their team can get half price entry to Spartans games on production of their own season ticket at the gate. We are delighted to welcome Ernst & Young as our Match Sponsor in what will be Douglas Samuel’s 500th game in charge. In his programme notes, Chairman Craig Graham’s comments are echoed right across the Spartans family; “I am so proud of Dougie today as he takes our team for the 500th time in competitive action. I hope he has a great day and pauses to take pride in all he has achieved for Spartans.” Ahead of the match, there will be a cross-Border ‘Battle of the Spartans’ curtain-raiser on the stadium pitch. Warrington-based FC Spartans have made the trip up to Edinburgh this weekend to take in the SPFL clash, but also to play our very own 2012s Youth side. With some 18 kids and 32 adults in the touring group, we hope everyone enjoys their experience at Ainslie Park which includes our young visitors as mascots, joining the players out onto the pitch so please do give them a warm welcome. |
