SPFL 2: Spartans on the road to StranraerThe Spartans make the 260 miles round trip to Stranraer looking to end a hat-trick sequence of 2-2 draws and head back to the Capital with maximum points in their latest SPFL clash at Stair Park. A hard fought comeback against Bonnyrigg Rose last weekend will undoubtedly offer Dougie Samuel’s men added fire to their collective bellies in what promises to be another epic encounter in an SPFL 2 competition that sees just five points separate the top six. This season’s new arrivals sit in mid table spot with just one defeat in their opening eight games, a solid start to life in the ‘big leagues’ by anyone’s standards. Five of these have been draws and a win on the road, along with results elsewhere could see the Ainslie Park side shuffle up the roster. The form guide sees Stranraer head into the inaugural league clash on the back of three losses and their gaffer Scott Agnew undoubtedly will be keen to get back to winning ways, especially on home soil. There have been two previous Cup encounters between the sides – the Irn Bru Cup in 2016 and the Boxing Day 2020 Scottish Cup tie in the height of the Covid pandemic – neither going in our favour however we still enjoy watching re-runs of Eddie Malone’s effort from the 2016 clash! Kick-off is, as usual, 3.00pm. Entry on the day will be by cash or card, £15 adults, £10 for concession and £5 for under 16’s. There will be light segregation on the day with the Spartan Army following directed to an area in the North Stand. The Pavilion Bar at the ground will be open for both sets of support on the day from 1.00pm. |
