Lowland League | Cammy looks for Star turn to maintain momentumPlaymaker Cammy Russell insists his recent spell of man of the match, goal scoring form is down to the quality of the squad that has evolved over the season as he looks to help guide Spartans to a win on the road at Dalbeattie Star. Its been six goals in as many games for Russell however he is yet to find the net in games against Saturday’s hosts, a gap in his scrapbook he is keen to fill. “I think as a team we have been working very hard as a unit and looking out for each other, building momentum as we go. We have really gelled well as a squad, know how each other play and that has been key in producing the hard graft and results we need. “For me, I think it’s probably the best run of games I’ve been involved in. Keeping injury free, knowing I’m playing and performing to the best of my ability helps massively.” Russell’s recent rich vein of form has seen him propel himself into the top ten Lowland League scorers for the club, moving up to 20 goals since joining from Kelty, something he is keen to add to at Islecroft. “I wasn’t aware I hadn’t scored against them so that’s something I’ll need to try and rectify! I know it is cliched but it will be a tough game down there, it always is. I don’t think the league position Dalbeattie are in reflects what they are capable of and we’ll have to be 100% ready from the off to take the game to them. “Their game last week produced a lot of goals and conceding them is certainly something that we are keen to avoid.” Kick-off is 3.00pm. |
