Spartans out to turn the heat on Hi Hi in Challenge Cup clash

The Spartans have a break from Lowland League duty this weekend as they head to East Lothian to take on Haddington Athletic in Round 3 of the South Challenge Cup.

Our hosts are sitting Hi Hi at the top of the East of Scotland 1st Division Conference A, undefeated so far and having conceded just four goals in the opening 14 fixtures.

Social media posts note the Millfield surface looking lush ahead of a cup clash against two teams who will be relatively unfamiliar with each other and should throw up an interesting encounter as the road to silverware continues.

Spartans recorded a 1-4 win on the road at Easthouses Lily in the previous round, whilst Haddington have defeated Dunbar United and Leith Athletic to set up the showdown against the team sitting in second place in the Lowland League.

Haddington will be looking to build on their impressive Scottish Cup performances against Highland League sides Deveronvale and Brechin City whilst Dougie Samuel will seek to progress in a tournament the Ainslie Park side last won in 2011.
