The Spartans have today announced the departure of striker Jack Smith. Smith, who netted 17 times during his 46 appearances moves on to seek an opportunity which will assist with work / life balance.

The 25 year old, who joined from BSC Glasgow in 2018, spoke of his decision to leave Ainslie Park. “I would like to thank all the players, staff and the chairman for the last couple of years. I will be moving on this year so I can play closer to home.

“Spartans is a great club who have looked after me through my injuries and I am gutted I couldn’t contribute more on the pitch due to this. They are the best club I have been at run by great people.

“It has been a tough decision for me to make but I think it is time to move so it can suit my work by being closer to home. “I have made some great friends over the past few years and I look forward to going back and playing against them.”

Manager Dougie Samuel said, “From the first minute to the last, I’ve loved working with ‘Jacko’. He’s a class act on and off the park. Our young strikers have been able to see up close and first-hand how a top striker at this level operates.

“Jack’s quality of movement is up there with anyone in our league. Sadly injuries have meant Jack’s missed more games that we – and he – would have liked.

“However, he leaves with no hard feelings, only our best wishes on and off the pitch.”
