GenSonic Lowland League: Honours even in the Kingdom as Kelty and Spartans share the spoilsSpartans and Kelty Hearts shared the spoils in front of a sizeable crowd of 545 at New Central Park. Blair Tolmie’s first half header was cancelled out after the break by home dangerman Stephen Husband to earn both teams a point in the GeoSonic Lowland League match of the day.The early exchanges failed to see either side forge open a clear cut opportunity with both goalkeepers mere spectators in a midfield war of attrition that saw the sides akin to two chess players patiently waiting on their moment to pounce. An opportunity for the Fifers went wide of Blair Carswell’s goal as Stuart Cargill threatened whilst at the other end, some nifty footwork by Alan Brown saw him work a cross into the box however Jamie Dishington could only header over the bar. Carswell had to look sharp when Stephen Husband’s well placed effort was well saved by the Spartans No.1. With six minutes until the oranges, the visitors took the lead. A Scott Maxwell corner was bulleted past Scott Christie in the Kelty goals to put Spartans a goal to the good ahead of half time. Half Time: Kelty Hearts 0-1 Spartans The opening quarter of the second half saw neither side explore with any great threat until Jack Smith had a promising run into the box, only for his shot to be well saved by Christie. Kelty were offered a lifeline with twenty minutes left on the clock when Scott Maxwell was adjudged to have transgressed into the penalty box. Husband stepped up and slotted from the spot to draw the Fifers level. Former Spartans hitman Errol Douglas almost gave Kelty the lead with thirteen minutes to play when his header went narrowly beyond Carswell’s post. Full Time: Kelty Hearts 1-1 Spartans Malt and Hops Man of the Match: Gary Cennerazzo |
