The American Dream – Spartans striker sets eyes on Scottish Cup runThe oldest football competition in the world could welcome another debutant this weekend as Stephen MacDonald joins Dougie Samuel’s squad for the trip west to take on East Kilbride in Round 2 of the William Hill Scottish Cup.American hitman MacDonald joined the Ainslie Park changing room in the summer following his move from Musselburgh and the Spartans man is relishing the chance to lock horns once again against familiar foes. Speaking ahead of the William Hill Scottish Cup clash at K-Park, the man from Phoenix, Arizona was in confident mood of kicking-off Spartans’ Road to Hampden: “It’s very exciting. When I came to play in Scotland last year I knew already of the Scottish Cup and it’s awesome history and a lot of great teams competing in it too. Spartans have had many big games in this tournament too in recent years and it generates a buzz around the place. So for me, its an honour to have the opportunity to play in the competition.” When the names were drawn out of the hat after the opening round on 22nd September, Saturday’s hosts had barely left the car park following a stalemate at Ainslie Park. MacDonald added, “Obviously we’ve played East Kilbride twice already this season and both have been draws over 90 minutes so we’ll be heading there and going out to go that extra yard on Saturday and pick up the win and be in the hat for the next round draw. “I’m looking forward to a decent game with hopefully a good bit of atmosphere and it’ll be great to see lots of Spartans fans in the crowd too. Cup games are special as they are a one-off and I’m fired up for the chance.” Will MacDonald’s Spartans trump East Kilbride? You can get behind the boys and be the 12th Man at K-Park on Saturday from 3pm. Admission Prices: £8 Adults, £4 Concessions and One Under 12 Free when accompanying an adult. |
