Football Nation Cup: Holders head to Gretna

Football Nation Cup holders Spartans head to Dumfries on Saturday looking to reach the last four of the tournament by defeating hosts Gretna 2008 and move one step closer to making it back to back silverware success for gaffer Dougie Samuel.

It took a last gasp goal from Blair Atkinson to separate the sides in the Lowland League back in September when substitute ‘Sid’ popped up at the back post to secure what looked like an unlikely three valuable points.

A similar outcome of course would be sufficient to satisfy the aims of the Ainslie Park side however the Raydale Park men will have undoubtedly done their homework to seek revenge and emulate their narrow League Cup semi final win at the same venue in 2016.
