Lowland League: Spartans set for first-footing Strollers test

Posted on Friday, January 5th, 2018

Whilst there might not be any New Year lumps of coal or your Granny’s black bun on offer, its the second season in a row that Civil Service Strollers turn up at Ainslie Park as Spartans SLFL ‘first-footers’ in the latest instalment of the eagerly awaited North Edinburgh derby.

Last time out this campaign it was a Ross Allum spot kick and a poacher poke home from close range courtesy of David Greenhill that earned the early bragging rights at Christie Gillies Park.

The two sides meet again with Dougie Samuel keen to build on his team’s three match unbeaten league run and whilst both outfits were frozen out of action last weekend, Spartans enjoyed a ‘closed doors’ run out midweek against Penicuik Thistle, with a favourable 3-1 result the final outcome.

It’ll be the fourth outing between the sides in the Lowland League since Civil’s introduction to the competition last season, one draw – a feisty inaugural clash that saw four goals and two red cards shared – and two Spartans victories.

Kick-off is 3pm.  Admission £7 / £4 and Under 16s can attend all our Lowland League games for free as we continue to make football affordable for all.  With no Premiership games on due to the ‘winter’ break, bring along your club’s season ticket and shows us it at the gate to get in for half price.
