Capital quartet all set for Ronnie Swan Trophy weekend

Posted on Friday, July 7th, 2017

Hearts, Hibernian and Edinburgh City will join Spartans in a four team pre-season challenge tournament at Ainslie Park this weekend.

The trophy, named in dedication to Honorary President Ronnie Swan who sadly passed away in 2014, has been competed for since season 2009/10.

Previous winners include Dunfermline, Hearts, Manchester United and ourselves.

The fixture line-up is as follows:

Saturday 8th July

12.00 Spartans vs Hearts XI

15.00 Edinburgh City vs Hibs XI

Sunday 9th July

12.00 Spartans vs Hibernian XI

15.00 Edinburgh City vs Hearts XI

The points system to decide the winner is similar to the format for the Betfred League Cup.

Gates open both days from 11am.  Admission prices on the both days will be £12 Adults, Students & Over 65s £6 – Under 12s Free.

Car parking spaces are at a premium and any illegally parked vehicles will receive Parking Control labels. Alternative parking can be found in the neighbouring streets.  Alternatively, Lothian Buses operate near the ground – the 21 & 27 stop on Ferry Road, whilst the 19, 24, 29, 37, 47 and 113 all stop near the Crewe Toll Roundabout.

We hope the Spartan Army and fans across the three other Edinburgh clubs come together to see a great weekend of football but perhaps most importantly, celebrate the life of a great man who gave so much to this club having joined as a player in 1953 and for the following 50 years was a regular every Saturday.
