Under 20s: Cameron quartet stuns Stirling

Posted on Tuesday, March 7th, 2017

Cameron Dawson hit all four of Spartans’ goals as they defeated Stirling University at Gannochy in the league on Monday evening.

The youngster, who has now scored 28 times this season so far, hit a 15 minute first half hat-trick in a 1-4 win that sees his side move up to 3rd place in a congested business end of the league table.

It was Les Atkinson’s side who flew out of the traps and were a goal to the good after just three minutes.  Dawson volleying home early on, leaving the goalkeeper to make his first touch of the night the one retrieving the ball from the back of the net.

That lead was to double just four minutes later.  A telling through ball from Danny Sutherland found Jonny Grotlin who delivered a cross to back post for Dawson to send his header across the keeper into the net.

Dawson’s hat-trick was completed within a quarter of an hour when he sent the Stirling keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot to further extend the Spartans lead.

The celebrations were still ongoing amongst the supporters on the Spartans touchline when the hosts pulled one back to make it 1-3 at the break.

The frantic flurry of first half goals failed to materialise in the second and it took until the 63rd minute before the ball acquainted itself with the net one more time.

A well worked one-two with Lewis Temple saw Dawson forge open a shooting chance.  His effort was well saved by the goalie who could only parry and the striker latched upon the rebound to score his – and his team’s – fourth of the evening.
