Barry Harry bags four as Under 20s hit BSC for sixA four goal five star performance by Harry Girdwood helped Spartans Under 20s come back from a goal down after just five minutes to hit six without reply against BSC Glasgow at a soggy Scotstoun on Friday night.Spartans headed west and travelled light with just two on the bench and a Trialist between the sticks as they looked to get back to winning ways against a BSC side boosted by the appointment of former Glasgow City ladies manager Eddie Black. The new boss will have been delighted with the start offered by his new young charges when Beckett’s deft flick with the head nestled in the back of the net gave the hosts a fifth minute lead. In inclement conditions more suited to canoeing, Harry Girdwood proved you truly can have your kayak and eat it with the first of his quartet of strikes when he equalised just before half time. Cameron Dawson the provider inside the BSC box and the striker didn’t need a written invitation before blasting home. HT: BSC Glasgow u20s 1-1 Spartans u20s It was a quick turnaround at the break catching your scribe and several of the hardy Spartans followers on the back foot as the visitors raced to a two goal advantage in almost as many minutes. Dawson once again setting up Girdwood to edge Spartans ahead for the first time in the game then a bout of reciprocation moments later saw further light put between the sides. The Harry Hat-Trick was completed in the 53rd minute. A well weighted Murray Hand corner finding Girdwood in space to bullet his header beyond the BSC keeper. With a quarter of an hour left, the Referee handed the hosts a chance to narrow the gap following a soft spot kick award. The Trialist Spartans keeper guessing the ball’s destination as he dived low to his right to smother the ball. Four minutes later, a telling Sutherland cross was knocked into his own net by an unfortunate BSC defender as he looked to try and send it to safety. The scoring was complete with twelve minutes to go and it was the pick of Girdwood’s goals that put the icing on the cake. Collecting the ball on the edge of the penalty area, he unleashed an unstoppable volley that was simply too ferocious for the youngster in goal to keep out. FT: BSC Glasgow u20s 1-6 Spartans |
