League Cup: Spartans look for Star turn to reach Semi-Finals

Posted on Friday, April 29th, 2016

The League Cup enters the Quarter Final stage this weekend with Dougie Samuel’s side looking to bounceback from their midweek defeat at Rosewell as they take on Dalbeattie Star as the hunt for silverware continues.

Spartans go into the tie having won both Ferrari Packaging Lowland League encounters, the latest being a 1-2 win at Islecroft Stadium last Saturday in a game burst into life early on with two goals inside the opening seven minutes.  Despite their early dominance, Star will head to the Capital boosted by their late strike that offered some squeakybumtime moments in the final few minutes.

Clichés however dictate that the game on Saturday should be described as a ‘one-off’ game whilst ‘league form goes out the window’ and this really is no different as two evenly matched sides go head to head for the third time this season for the right to take on either Gretna or Selkirk in the semi-final next weekend.

Dalbeattie boss Darren Kerr will be looking to utilise his squad following his decision to rest a few players last week, whilst Samuel sweats over Mikey Herd.

The match kicks-off at 3pm.  Admission: Adults £5, Concessions £3.  Under 16s Free.
