League Cup: Weather is fair – it’s ON at Welfare!

Posted on Wednesday, April 20th, 2016

Spartans head to Mid Lothian tonight to take on Whitehill Welfare in Round 1 of the League Cup.

After three attempts to play their league fixture at the same venue fell foul to the weather, it’s finally game on as both sides look to progress in the hunt for silverware.

In what is potentially the first of three games between two of the Scottish non-league’s most well known clubs, a home tie against Dalbeattie Star is the prize for the victors.

It’s the first visit to Rosewell for Spartans after a hat-trick of Lowland League fixture postponements. The match at Ainslie Park back in August threw up the usual feast of entertainment between the old rivals, with David Greenhill and an Aaron Murrell double seeing the Ainslie Park side win 3-2.

Tonight’s match kicks-off at the earlier time of 6.15pm to accommodate no floodlight provision and the prospect of cramming in any additional periods of play before sunset at the 8.30pm.
