Samuel’s Spartans press for South Challenge Cup successAfter a brief flirt with league football, it’s back to the hunt for silverware for Dougie Samuel’s Spartans on Saturday when they take on BSC Glasgow in the South Challenge Cup 4th Round at Ainslie Park. With the Lowland League clash between the teams in midweek postponed due to a puddle-strewn Lochside Park, the sides met to see who progresses in the coveted competition as the business end of the season starts to take shape. When the Clubs met back in September, Spartans narrowly edged out their west coast opponents courtesy of an Aaron Murrell double and the Manager expects a another tough encounter, with cup progression the prize on offer “Games against BSC are always difficult, I fully expect more of the same on Saturday. We go into the tie in the back on an excellent win on the road in Gala however this is a knock-out game where form can go out the window, as we have seen across the border in the Premiership recently.” One player Samuel will look to as he plots his side’s passage to the latter stages of the tournament is Dean Horribine. Since his return to action after a spell on the treatment table, the striker has scored 8 goals in 7 games, including his first hat-trick for the Club last week in the Borders. Not able to take part is new signing Mikey Bruce who picked up knee injury whilst playing for the East of Scotland side in their midweek draw against On a more positive note, Paul Thomson is once again fit and available for selection. In addition to this, Jack Beesley continues to impress from the bench in his road to full recovery and Scott Maxwell is building on his match sharpness too. The match kicks-off at 3pm. Admission: Adults £5, Concessions £3, Under 16s FREE. |
