Late show sees Spartans share the spoils with Tynie in two-two draw

Posted on Wednesday, March 2nd, 2016

An injury time pinpoint precision free-kick from Paul Dickson earned Spartans EOS a last gasp draw against Tynecastle at a bitterly cold Ainslie Park.

With his side playing three games in 6 days, Manager Colin Tomassi shuffled his pack from the weekend’s win over Coldstream, resting Danny O’Donnell whilst drafting in Shaun Miller onto the bench from the Under 20s.

The opening forty five minutes was a relatively incident free event, with a long range effort in the 26th minute from Jordan Brown which drifted wide of the Tynecastle target the most likely attempt to trouble the scoreboard.

Half Time: Spartans 0-0 Tynecastle

The second half was a decidedly better show than its poor relation prior to the break and it came to life ten minutes after the restart.

Mikey Bruce was penalised for his attempt to thwart a Tynecastle trip into the Spartans danger area and from the edge of the box, Scott Coleman lifted his free-kick over the wall before it tucked into the net with Ross Gilpen a bystander.

Spartans equalised in the 69th minute with a sweeping move through the middle of the field saw the ball find Chris Anderson who beat the offside trap before squaring to Andy Howat who levelled proceedings.

Almost immediately from the restart, Tynecastle restored their one goal advantage.  Robbie McIntyre collected possession inside the Spartans half before he unleashed an unstoppable strike that flew into the top corner from some 35 yards.

Anderson almost netted his tenth of the season when he picked up on a misjudged attempted clearance by a Tynecastle defender, but his strike narrowly went past Craig Cockburn’s post.

Then, with the game deep into injury time, Spartans were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the Tynecastle box.   Paul Dickson stepped up and his dead ball effort was up and over the wall and into the net to give his side a share of the spoils.

Dickson was then offered the opportunity to beat the rush into the showers when Referee Rennie despatched him with a red card following a foul on the touchline that also saw the temperature at Ainslie Park rise for the only time throughout the evening as the ice cold air filled the North Edinburgh sky.
