Samuel looking for Rovers return to winning ways in South Region CupIt’s a break from the trials and tribulations of the Ferrari Packaging Lowland League this Saturday for Dougie Samuel and his team as they head to the Borders to take on Peebles Rovers in the 1st Round of the South Region Challenge Cup.For Spartans, it’s the first of a trio of back to back cup games as the hunt for silverware continues in the Challenge Cup, Scottish Cup and Football Nation East of Scotland Qualifying Cup. The sides met last season in the same competition at the 2nd Round stage and it needed Extra Time for Spartans to see off the Rovers. Goals from Douglas (x2), Nixon and Beacher finally put Peebles to the sword after they raced to a 0-2 lead at Half Time. After last week’s narrow defeat on league duty, Samuel’s side will look to bounceback against last season’s EOS Division 1 and King Cup winners who currently sit one point ahead of Colin Tomassi’s men in the East of Scotland League. The Borders outfit will head into the Cup tie looking to avoid a hat-trick they don’t want – that of three defeats on the bounce. The match at Whitestone Park, kicks-off at 2.30pm. |
