Signing boost for Spartans as Murrell and Dishington extend contracts

The Club are delighted to announce that youngsters Jamie Dishington and Aaron Murrell put pen to paper to sign extended contracts at the end of last week.  Both players, in their first season at Senior level since moving up from last season’s successful Under 20s side, have been very popular additions to Dougie Samuel’s Lowland League squad amongst the Spartan Army fans.

Midfielder Dishington has had a great start to the season and his contract extension is a well deserved reward for hard work in training and some excellent performances on the pitch, including a goal against East Kilbride last month.  Gaffer Dougie Samuel spent time with Jamie and his Dad before agreeing the contract extension and is excited with Jamie’s progress, “Jamie has come into the team and performed very well.  He can play in various midfield positions, loves to learn and is keen to progress in the game.  I’m delighted he has made a commitment to develop and grow with us.

“I believe he be an SPFL player one day, hopefully with us.  Our experienced players are excellent role models for him and we look forward to Jamie continuing to make his mark”.

Even at the ripe old age of 18, Jamie holds distinction of being the longest serving 1st XI player.  He’s now in his 13th season at the club!

For Aaron Murrell, the contract extension is an ideal birthday present for the young striker who turned 18 last week.

Aaron has hit the headlines with his impressive start to the season, with 17 goals to his name in all competitive fixtures.   It’s been ‘Murrell at the double’ on no fewer than four occasions so far, with braces against Whitehill, Edinburgh University, Cumbernauld Colts and BSC Glasgow.

His hat-trick at the weekend against Coldstream in the William Hill Scottish Cup also earned him the Malt and Hops Man of the Match award.  Aaron will be glad he’s now old enough to collect his prize!

Dougie Samuel added, “Aaron has thoroughly deserved his contract extension.  After leaving school in the summer, he has dedicated himself pretty much full time to his football and we can see his efforts paying off on the pitch.  Like Jamie, I’m enjoying working with him and look forward to watching him develop further and see where it takes him”.
