Spartans at the double – EOS and Under 20s both in Friday Night actionFriday night sees two Spartans sides in action in their respective league campaigns across the Capital.Les Atkinson’s new look Under 20s side kick-off their season ‘away from home’ at Ainslie Park against tenants Edusport. With several of the successful trophy winning side from last season now plying their trade in the East of Scotland and Lowland League teams, Assistant Manager Gary McClelland is looking forward to watching his new intake getting stuck in against the French-infused side: McClelland said, “Training has gone well and we are all looking forward to the game. We still have six players from last season’s squad who will help the new players settle and gives the team a lot of experience. Edusport are new to this age group and will be an unknown quantity, but the players have come over from France, so we imagine they will have good technical ability. “We go into the game with a fully fit squad, but we are aware that it will be hard as we don’t know a lot about Edusport.” Meanwhile, the high flying East of Scotland side look to make it a hat-trick of league victories in the space of just six days when they head across town to face Tynecastle at Saughton Enclosure. Colin Tomassi’s side are undefeated in competitive action so far this campaign and go into the game on the back of two 3-1 victories against Civil Service Strollers & Duns respectively. The tight opening schedule has been described as ‘a challenge’ by the Spartans gaffer however he is looking forward to what he describes as his toughest test yet. “The players have performance magnificently this week and whilst I have no real concerns over their recovery time, three games in six days is a challenge. “I’ve no doubt that Tynecastle’s six goal defeat last Saturday was a bit of a freak result and I genuinely think they will be our toughest test yet and will be contenders for the league come the end of the season.” On the playing front, Tomassi’s squad is stretched with Donal Henretty recovering from injury and Kai Wilson away this weekend. Both games kick-off at 7.45pm.
