Spartans leave it late to deliver deadly blow to defeat dogged DunsSpartans EOS continued their winning start to their East of Scotland League campaign with a 3-1 victory against Duns, who played for almost 80 minutes with 10 men following an early sending off.Fresh from their opening day derby win over neighbours Civil Service Strollers, Colin Tomassi’s side got off to the perfect start in the 12th minute when Chris Anderson was tripped inside the box by James Brydon who then had the freedom of the showers in the visitors changing room following his subsequent dismissal. Blair Atkinson stepped up to put Spartans ahead with his sixth goal of the season so far. Despite the numerical advantage, Spartans couldn’t break down the Dingers defence over the following half an hour of play and the sides headed into the sheds with the home side one goal – and one player up – at the interval. HT: Spartans EOS 1-0 Duns Paul Dickson came close to increasing the home side’s lead in the 64th minute when his free-kick rattled the bar. The woodwork’s intervention was to prove a timely one for Duns who equalised through a penalty of their own three minutes later. Sean Robertson was felled inside the box and Jordan Lauder made no mistake from 12 yards sending his spot-kick past Ross Gilpin. With 10 minutes left on the clock, Spartans restored their lead after Blair Atkinson collected the ball following some fine distribution before squaring it to Kai Wilson who made no mistake in finding the back of the net. As the game moved into injury time, Chris Anderson killed off any hopes of a 10 man Duns comeback when he scored his fifth goal in as many games to make it a 100% winning start for the Ainslie Park side. FT: Spartans EOS 3-1 Duns In the other EOS games tonight, Leith scored 5 for the second game in a row, this time without reply at home against Kelso whilst Heriot Watt University were not the Fishermen’s friend, beating Eyemouth 6-0. |
