Thomson follows father’s footsteps to make his own mark at Spartans

Posted on Thursday, July 30th, 2015

Speaking of the move, Chairman Craig Graham said, “We’re delighted to announce that Paul Thomson has signed for us after we agreed a transfer fee with Tayport JFC, where he has played for the last few seasons while at Dundee University.  Paul is no stranger to the Capital having previously played for Edinburgh University and he even had a few games for our Junior XI one summer before heading up to Dundee to study.

“Paul has already made his mark in our pre-season friendlies as a no nonsense defender – just like his Dad.  Many of our supporters will remember Mark who captained the 1st XI for a number of seasons in the 90’s.”

Manager Douglas Samuel noted of his latest acquisition, “I’m delighted we have been able to bring Paul on board. With the summer departures, we needed another experienced centre half. Having worked with Paul before, I know he will be a great addition to our new group, on and off the park. There’s an honesty and resilience to his game which I’ve always admired, he’s also someone who loves to learn and has an excellent work ethic.

“Finally, I’d like to thank Dave Baikie for allowing us to play Paul in our pre season programme.”

Spartans open their Ferrari Packaging Lowland League campaign this Sunday away to Stirling University at Forthbank Stadium.  3pm Kick-off.
