Maiden Pyramid Playoff Match Marks Significant Day in History

Posted on Saturday, April 25th, 2015

Today marks another huge step in Scottish Football history as the first ever Pyramid system playoff takes place. This afternoon the winner of the Highland League will meet the winner of the Lowland League in the first of a two game playoff. With the winner going on to play against the side who finished bottom of SPFL League Two, there has never been more at stake for any non league side in Scottish Football.

Today’s game takes place at Meadowbank Stadium following the sensational season Edinburgh City have had. Having previously applied for vacant places in Senior Football, they are just one of the many sides in the Highland and Lowland league who have ambitious well beyond non league football. Brora Rangers are their opposition and given their recent dominance of the Highland League come to the Capital as favourites. However, we’ve seen all season the standard that City are capable of and we wish them every success.

Spartans Chairman Craig Graham was a key member of the Pyramid System working group set up by the SFA.
“It’s a big day tomorrow for Scottish football, the first pyramid game allowing teams from below the SPFL the chance to move up.  We wish Edinburgh City well, they have had a superb league campaign and will give Brora a great game.”

Today’s game kicks off at 3pm, Meadowbank Stadium.
