Spartans out to make Capital from City sticky spell

Posted on Friday, April 10th, 2015

Spartans head to the Commonwealth Stadium to take on Edinburgh City in a weekend of Derby action in Scotland’s Capital.

Dougie Samuel’s side will look to capitalise on City’s recent dip in form and secure three vital points as several clubs battle it out for the runners-up spot.  Spartans moved into 5th place after a midweek point gained on the road, just four points behind East Kilbride who are the current tenants of the second place berth.

Spartans are one of only a handful of opponents to record victory against the Meadowbank-based team throughout the season, a Lowland League Cup win in December, and with Saturday’s derby’s set to be another tough and tight encounter, there will be plenty to play for come kick-off time.

After a lull in proceedings due to free weekends, Spartans will be keen to use their 1-1 draw at Vale of Leithen in midweek as a catalyst for a strong finish to a campaign.

Errol Douglas’ late equaliser in the dead of the night in Innerleithen saw the hit man get back in the goals after his return from a loan spell and the striker will once again be looking to be part of Samuel’s plans to shoot down City, having scored his side’s opener in that Cup win at Ainslie Park.

The match kicks off at 3pm.
