Spartans plan no Selkirk grace in race for second place

Spartans head to Yarrow Park looking for a vital three points on the road as the chasing pack fight it out for second place in a fiercely competitive end to the Scottish Sun Lowland League season.

With 7 points separating sixth place to second, a win against Selkirk is priority for Manager Dougie Samuel who sees his side head into combat for the first time since their 1-1 draw against Dalbeattie at the end of February.

When the sides met back in September, Spartans ran out 5-1 victors a result Samuel would relish in front of crowd boosted by the Groundhopper visitors up in Scotland for a weekend of Lowland League action.

Samuel said, “With no game for the past 3 weeks we are looking forward to testing ourselves against Selkirk.  Our midweek friendly win over Edinburgh United has helped to blow some of the cobwebs away.

“Since my last player update, sadly we have lost Jack Nixon for the rest of the season (due to an eye injury), plus Iain Thomson who takes a step back due to his ever increasing work commitments.  In short our squad is stretched however it’s also a chance for some players to demonstrate their value.

“Depending on the schedule of our East of Scotland and U/20 teams, when appropriate we will look to involve some players from both of these squads in our remaining games.”

Kick-off on Saturday at Yarrow Park is 3.30pm.
