Samuel looks for Star turn to help secure short term goals

As the battle for second place in this season’s Scottish Sun Lowland League gets into the business end of the campaign, Spartans look to build on their midweek success at Pennypitt when the welcome Dalbeattie Star to Ainslie Park on Saturday.

Goals from Willie Bremner and Kevin Motion separated the sides when they met at Islecroft back in October however Dougie Samuel is mindful of the threat the men from Dumfries will bring to the Capital.

In his match programme notes, Samuel writes, “I always enjoy games against the Star, they are a team expertly coached, well organised and packed with talented and hungry players.  Since my time here, our games have typically been tactical and technical affairs, with both sides looking to pass the ball and play through their creative players in the middle and final 1/3rd areas.”

The visitors travel on the back of the news that Manager Paul McGinley will step down at the end of the season and undoubtedly, his side will want to see their boss go out on a high.   It’s been a mixed start to 2015 for Dalbeattie and if it’s goals the spectators are after, this could be the game of the day with Star’s games so far this year averaging four per match.

For Samuel, Saturday’s game offers the opportunity to start where they left off against Preston in midweek, where a late recovery saw his side secure three valuable campaign points – a similar outcome without the drama would satisfy the Gaffer and the Spartan Army come 4.45pm.

Picking up vital league points to finish as high up the table together with the League Cup knock-out stages to come, there’s still plenty to play for before the season ends.

Sitting out against the Star unfortunately will be Kevin Swain and Mikey Herd due to injury however it’s great to see Mikey Bruce getting the boots back on as his road to recovery takes him to Easthouses with our East of Scotland side.

Match kick-off is 3pm.  Admission Prices £5, Concessions £3 and Under 16s are Free!
