Spartans hope for some Happy New Cheer against ‘first footers’ Whitehill

Posted on Friday, January 2nd, 2015

There were fireworks over Edinburgh on Hogmanay and 2015 is set to start with a Lowland League bang as Whitehill Welfare ‘first foot’ Spartans in the opening fixture of the New Year.

It’s back to Scottish Sun Lowland League duty on Saturday as Spartans look to keep the heat on leaders Edinburgh City in what promises to be yet another exciting encounter between the two sides.

Spartans Manager Dougie Samuel is looking for more of the same in terms of result from when the sides locked horns before Christmas in the League Cup, whilst on a surface more suited to the Spartans style of fast flowing football.

Samuel writes in his match programme notes, “We expect a similar game to our recent 1-0 win in terms of work ethic and pure desire to win.  However, conditions underfoot will be the exact opposite from the heavy pitch of 2 weeks ago at Rosewell.  As ever, we will look to impose our game-plan and style of play on proceedings.”

On the player front, Michael Herd, Kevin Sivewright, Mikey Bruce and Robbie Ross remain on the treatment table, whilst Ross Gilpin continues with his short term loan out at Preston.

On a more positive note, Iain Thomson returns from suspension and Keith McLeod from a recent spell on the sidelines due to heavy work commitments.

The match kicks-off at 3pm.  Admission £5 Adults, £3 Concessions with Free Admission for Under 15s.
