Donate at the Gate on Saturday – and see the Edinburgh Derby for FREE!Its crunch time at lunch time on Saturday, as Spartans welcome Edinburgh City to Ainslie Park in the opening round of the Scottish Sun Lowland League, League Cup Section. In return for a donation of everyday items that will be distributed amongst projects across the local community, kind-hearted fans will be given the opportunity to watch football for free when they ‘Donate at the Gate’ ahead of the 1pm kick-off. On the pitch, Spartans will be keen to avenge the early season midweek defeat against their Edinburgh rivals, when Mikey Bruce scored in a 1-2 reversal whilst City will be looking to continue their impressive start to the season which sees them undefeated in the League at the festive break. Gary Jardine’s side were inactive last week as they were frozen out in the Borders with their EOS Qualifying Cup game postponed due to inclement weather. Spartans boss Dougie Samuel will be keen to catch ‘The Citizens’ cold come kick-off. “Games against Saturday’s opponents are always cagey, tactical and tight affairs, which is exactly what we’ll expect from City. Unlike our League encounter in the first week of season, we’ll be looking for a better start to the game and will be out to make a winning start to the League Cup group campaign.” Returning to the mix on Saturday will be John Grant who has recovered from illness and he will once again be available for selection. Samuel will also be looking to offer valuable game time to a selection of players and also to give some of the rising stars a chance to shine. On the treatment table, Mikey Bruce will be out for another 4 weeks as he recovers from his recent knock and he joins Mikey Herd and Robbie Ross on the sidelines. |
