Berwick Rangers book Scottish Cup Last 16 date at Ainslie ParkMatch winner against Morton Jack Beesley may have wanted Glasgow Rangers in the last 16 draw, instead, it’s the Wee Rangers who will travel to Ainslie Park on 7th February after the Borderers beat Albion Rovers 0-1 at Cliftonhill in Tuesday’s 4th Round replay.Colin Cameron’s Berwick Rangers narrowly defeated 10-man Rovers with an 80th minute Andrew Russell goal, which means a return to Ainslie Park for Dean Hoskins who joined the Borderers back in 2012 after nine years at Spartans, which saw him enjoy legendary status amongst the Spartan Army faithful. In the only previous Scottish Cup meeting between the sides, Spartans knocked Berwick out in the first round with a 1-0 win at City Park in November 2005. Donal Henretty’s 61st minute goal from a Craig Smart cross saw the then Division 3 leaders crash out of the competition at the first hurdle. Spartans Manager Dougie Samuel said, “We are looking forward to testing ourselves against a team I expect to finish in the play-off positions. It will be tough, however, the underdog tag is one we enjoy. We’ll prepare as best as we can and give it our best shot to make history.” Further details in relation to the tie will be released nearer the date on our website and other social media channels. |
