Spartans out to prevent Panners from putting spanners in Lowland League worksIt’s back to Scottish Sun Lowland League action for Spartans where the prize on offer is three vital championship points against Preston Athletic at Ainslie Park. After last week’s Scottish Cup heroics, the bread and butter of league duty sees Dougie Samuel’s side set out their stall as they look to close the gap on Edinburgh City at the top of the pile. The visitors make the short journey up the A1 as they look to kick-start their campaign under Manager Willie Kirk. Kirk is familiar with the surroundings of the Academy, having been a visitor on several occasions whilst in charge at Hibernian Ladies. Preston may sit bottom of the table however Spartans will be desperate to avoid the potential banana skin of a defeat and seek to add to their 15 match unbeaten run, which includes two media attention grabbing wins v Clyde and Morton in the Scottish Cup. Ahead of Saturday’s game, Samuel said, “I’m delighted it’s a fresh challenge – a new opponent and vital league game. Make no mistake about it, our no.1 priority this season is to retain our Lowland League title. Can the 10 point gap to City be bridged? It will be difficult, but we believe it can and will give our all to do just that. We have an opportunity to reduce the gap at the top to 7 points and we’ll grab it with both hands.” Spartans will be without Mikey Bruce who suffered ankle ligament damage in the Scottish Cup win v Morton and he joins long terms injury victims Robbie Ross & Mikey Herd on the sidelines. On the plus side, John Grant has recovered from his knock last week and Kevin Sivewright is also available for selection. The match kicks-off at 3pm. Admission is £5 Adults / £3 Concessions. However you can save cash by buying your cut-price half season ticket for just £25 Adults / £12.50 and remember – all under 15s will be offered a FREE season ticket. |
