Superb Cup win for U20s & Cammy Armstong news

Posted on Tuesday, September 30th, 2014

Our under 20s had a superb 4 – 2 win over full time Partick Thistle in Round 2 of the Scottish Youth Cup on Sunday. George Hunter bagged all four, two from the spot as we raced to a 4 – 0 lead after an hour. The Jags scored two late goals as fitness told, however we played some great passing football and the boys were a massive credit to the club.

Team: Carswell, Imlah, Oliff, Dickson, Buchanan, McGrory-Irvine, Stewart (Brown), Sishington, Atkinson (Davies), Hunter, Daniel (Mair) Subs not used: Lackie, Tait

The previous weekend however the squad had received the news that Cammy Armstrong, was in taken into hospital with and had an operation to remove a tumour. Cammy was part of our successful 96 squad at under 14 level before moving to a spell at Falkirk. He returned to the club at under 16 and was a member of our most successful youth squad to date, helping the U17s win our first ever Scottish Cup.

He was very unlucky with injuries last season and endured surgery on a knee injury. He played was part of  the U19 EOS squad level last season but left to join Whitehill Welfare at the start of the season. Cammy still has a close affinity with Spartans and has a number of friends at the club. He is awaiting further treatment and everyone at Spartans wish him well with his recovery
