William Hill Draw Sees A Famililar Face Visit Ainslie Park

Posted on Monday, September 15th, 2014

Spartans have been drawn at home to fellow Lowland League side East Kilbride in the 2nd Round of the William Hill Scottish Cup. The draw took place today in Glasgow at a branch of William Hill and sees us with a home tie against Kilby in what is their first every participation in the Scottish Cup.

Kilby progressed to the 2nd round following a 1-0 victory away to Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale in the 1st round and having battled for a hard fought 2-2 draw against them earlier this season, we know exactly how tough a tie this will be.

Spartans Craig Graham commented moments after the draw was made
“We’re delighted to be playing at home after a fair bit of travel in recent games in the national cup competitions. We haven’t beaten East Kilbride in three attempts since the Lowland League started, indeed it took until this season for us to score a goal against them. They have signed some very good players this season. When we played them at home last month they played as well in the second half as any team to have played at Ainslie Park in recent years. It will be a tough challenge.”

Manager Dougie Samuel also added his thoughts
“Delgihted first with a home draw, however we would have preferred a team from outwit the Lowland League. We’ve not beaten Kilby in the three matches against them so far so this is a tough draw, but a game we are very much looking forward to.”

The match will be played on Saturday 4th October.
