Knocked out but far from downWe’ve now played ‘The Welfare’ 4 times this season. Lots will be written and said amongst the supporters of each Club and beyond, but on each occasion the better side on the day has won…it really is as simple as that. All of the MOM contenders yesterday were wearing WWFC colours. Yesterday I made the call that we would change things, vary away from our usual approach and game-plan…it didn’t work, which means I called it wrong. Forget the playing surface, the strong wind, the heavy conditions under-foot, some moments of good luck and/or which side wanted it the most…we lost to the better team on the day. I have an honest and hard working group of players, we know that we didn’t reach the standards we have set for ourselves and/or achieved in many other games this season. Although the disappointment of yesterday is still raw (it really is dark on the dark side this morning) a sense of perspective also exists. At the start of the season, if someone had said to me we would be leading our head to head vs. last years double winners after 4 games played, I would have said ‘we’ll take it’…such is the level of great respect we have for our great rivals from Rosewell. To reach Saturday 8th March competing on all fronts (excluding the Scottish Cup itself), means that our players are enjoying a good season so far. The hardest task of all, converting our results to date into silverware, is an exciting prospect…it’s a challenge we will continue to enjoy and embrace. It’s no secret that the LL League Cup is a competition we have used to achieve various objectives…whether it was improving the match fitness and sharpness of some players, trying different combinations and/or a new team shape. We’ve banked a few learns along the way and are in better shape to achieve our main goals because of it. Yesterday is gone, however, there remains lots to play for…starting with a quarter final in the biggest local cup we play for next Saturday…to be honest, it can’t come quick enough. Sammy |
