Rovers return as Lowland League run-in heats up

Posted on Friday, February 28th, 2014

It’s back to Lowland League duty on Saturday as Spartans welcome Threave Rovers to the Academy.

As the drama and tension of the inaugural Scottish Sun sponsored Lowland League builds with only a handful of fixtures to play, nothing more than a win for the current league leaders will do.

This will be the first of two games against the Castle Douglas side this month as the teams are scheduled for a Meadow Park midweek battle on the 26th March.

Threave’s 10th position in the league doesn’t reflect the two tough Ramsdens Cup qualifying games back in July and it’ll take another strong performance on Saturday to keep the gap between Spartans and the chasing pack.

The visitors will be keen to bounceback from their recent 6-1 defeat to local rivals Dalbeattie Star whilst Spartans look to continue their undefeated Lowland League run which stretches back to 28th September.

Manager Dougie Samuel sees Ally MacKinnon ruled out through injury.  He joins Robbie Ross and Jack Beacher on the treatment table whilst Jack Blaikie continues his recovery with a place in the East of Scotland side for their lunchtime kick-off against Civil Service Strollers.

The match kicks-off at 3pm with admission prices at £5 for Adults, £3 Concessions and Under 15s go FREE!
