Image Rights on the Line in Semi Final

Posted on Friday, February 21st, 2014

Tomorrow we welcome East of Scotland side Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale to the Academy for the Image Printers Cup Semi Final.

The Saughton side make the short journey over Ravelston to visit the Academy for the 2nd time this season. The EOS favourites secured a controversial victory over our EOS side as the referee missed us scroing a goal late on in our 3-2 defeat earlier this season. Allowing the game to continue, as our players celebrated and the music played on the tannoy, Lothian raced down the other end and scored to secure the three points.

Manager Dougie Samuel was in attendance that day and knows how hard a task we face tomorrow.

“We know we are up against a young, hungry side which is more than capable of player at a higher level. We come into the game on the back of a 4-1 win over Vale of Leithen and I was pleased to see how we bounced back after the 0-0 draw with East Kilbride.

“As has been the case for the majority of the games this season once again we used 14 players last Saturday as we look to keep everyone fresh and involved. The success of our season to date can be attributed to a handful of key things, at the very top is the depth within the whole squad. With the loss of Jack Beacher and Robbie Ross for the rest of the season, this depth will be stretched a little, however, it remains key as we look to progress on various fronts.”

Lothian are on an impressive unbeaten run since Manager Kevin Twaddle’s appointment in early November. Speaking to the Edinburgh Evening News, Twaddle is looking forward to the match but is also expecting a tough afternoon.

“I set myself very high standards, but I didn’t expect to still be unbeaten after three months. There are a lot of quality teams, even in our league. Don’t get me wrong, apart from a few individual clubs, the Lowland League is just a glorified East of Scotland League. We’ve played a few teams this year in the Lowland League and we’ve held our own against them.

“Spartans are, however, an exception and are the pinnacle. It’s an amazing game to look forward to, but obviously a really tough test for us. Their setup is second to none, but it’s a one-off game and to go there and win would be a massive upset because Dougie has some cracking boys there and he is a fantastic coach and is a benchmark for people like myself.”

The match kicks off at 3pm. Entry is £5/£3 and all under 15s are FREE!
