Lowland League returns as Spartans look to thrive at ThreaveSpartans get back to Lowland League action on Saturday with a road trip to Threave Rovers, keen to maintain the gap between them and the chasing pack. After a seven week shutdown to undertake cup commitments, Dougie Samuel’s side head to Castle Douglas as the season enters the business end of proceedings. Threave currently occupy tenth position however midfielder Jack Beesley urges caution and recognises the Dumfries-based side are a better footballing side than their 10th place suggests. “We played Threave at the beginning of the season in the Ramsdens Cup and we managed to edge it over two fiercly competitive games. “The fortunes of the two teams have taken different journeys since then however a win in Saturday’s game is vital to restart the season on a high.” Meanwhile, Spartans legend Keith McLeod is one goal away from equalling the British record of scoring in 15 consecutive games. ‘Cloudy’, who’s form has seen him pick up two Colin Campbell sponsored Lowland League Player of the Month awards so far this season, told the Edinburgh Evening News that he would be “delighted if I could equal the record” however the ever modest hitman also pointed out that he’s not “expecting them (Rovers) to make it easy for me, that’s for sure” Kick-off at Meadow Park is 3pm. The Supporters bus departs 10.20 from the Academy, final few spaces still available – please contact Cameron Hobbs on 07962 353645 to book your seat. |
