Rosew-ell clasico as Spartans welcome Whitehill in Challenge Trophy showdownFor the 2nd week in a row, Dougie Samuel’s Spartans must oust the cup holders to progress in their search for silverware this season. After last week’s 2-0 win over Gretna in the Image Printers Cup, its the turn of Whitehill Welfare to defend their South Challenge trophy at Ainslie Park. Welfare knocked out Gaffer Mickey Lawson’s old side 2-1 in the same competition last year however much has passed under the bridge since then, with both sides fairing differently in the inaugural Lowland League and of course, the summer transfer of Rosewell favourite Alan Brown to Ainslie Park. Brown was on the scoresheet when the sides met in Lowland League duty earlier in the season, with Mark Whatley grabbing the other in a comfortable 2-0. However, it’s the Cup. A 90 minute knock-out. The winner takes all. It’s an analogy marathon – call it what you will. On the player front for Spartans, both Kevin Sivewright and Robbie Ross are still on the treatment table whilst Sean Muhsin & Jack Beacher are not quite 100% match fit. Donal Henretty is also unavailable today. On a more positive note, Ali MacKinnon, Willie Bremner and Danny O’Donnell are all available again for selection for a Spartans side than has made full use of it’s enhanced squad this season so far. This fixture gives an extra buzz to both sets of players and fans – and the keyboard champions on online forums. One team goes through – the other goes home. Who will it be come 4.45pm on Saturday? There’s only one way to find out. Get along to the Ainslie Park Arena for the biggest clash in the biggest local cup competition. Admission Prices are: £5 Adults, £3 Concessions and of course, Under 12s go Free! And don’t forget to see Jeanette – wrap up warm with your Spartans beanie & scarf – available for the Café Bar. |
