Around the Academy – The Weekend Round-Up

Posted on Sunday, November 17th, 2013

The Seniors dumped holders Gretna out of the Image Printers Cup with a two goal late show at Ainslie Park.

Before kick-off, both sets of players, mascots and the healthy crowd inside Ainslie Park respectfully observed a minute silence for Darren King, Brother of former Spartans Midfielder Alex King, who sadly passed away earlier this week.

With the game threatening to head into extra-time, goals from Alan Brown and the man of the moment Keith McLeod secured a win against an impressive Gretna.   The full match report can be found here

Meanwhile, across the City, the East of Scotland side continued their mini-revival, with a 0 – 0 draw away to Edinburgh University.  Alex Cunningham’s men amassing an impressive four clean-sheets in six games.

The Saturday Amateurs disappointingly lost 3 – 1 to Inverleith in Round 2 of the East of Scotland Cup with Andy Hornell scoring the sides only goal.

Finally, a hat-trick by Blair Atkinson set up a 4-1 win for the 19s on Sunday as they beat Heriot Watt Uni on league duty.  Scott Irving grabbing the other in an impressive display.
