Rivals wrestle for early bragging rights as ‘best of five’ begins

Posted on Friday, September 6th, 2013

Some might say that a clash between Spartans and Whitehill Welfare needs no introduction, but here is one anyway!

In what promises to be another fantastic clash in this exciting inaugural Lowland League season, the game offers an opportunity for early bragging rights in what is scheduled to be the first of five fixtures between the sides.

It’s an intense but respectful rivalry between the sides and one that gives a special fire in the bellies of players, coaches and fans alike come kick-off time.

“The league competition may have changed, but this fixture remains a special fixture, it always will be”, notes Spartans Manager Dougie Samuel. “The history of both Clubs, the success enjoyed by both Clubs over many, many years will ensure that this remains the case.”

The game itself sees a string of players who have plied their trade in the colours of both sides and there are sure to be some personal goals to be settled on the pitch in what promises to be a feisty encounter.

On the playing front for Spartans, the bigger squad gleaned over the summer is certainly being tested as Jack Beacher, Sean Muhsin, Robbie Ross and Ross Gilpin are all out injured.

Finally, the Spartans 2004 kids will be attending the game and we hope the stars of tomorrow enjoy watching their heroes of today.
