Scores on the Academy doors – Weekend results round-upThere were mixed fortunes across the Spartans adult family this weekend. The Seniors showed tremendous courage and determination to come from 1-0 down against the much fancied Stirling University to remain undefeated and go joint top of the Lowland League. Goals from John Grant and super-sub Lukasz Rusin cancelled out a first half Geddes strike to record a 2-1 victory. Spartans E.O.S. lost 3 – 2 to Coldstream in a League Cup section tie. We were behind but equalised through a Robbie Laird spot kick before half time. A deflected second put the Streamers back ahead and they scored a third before we pulled one back from another Laird penalty. Coldstream are favourites to win the section and it was good to run them close on their tight park. The Amateurs lost 6 – 1 to East Linton in a day when nearly everything went wrong. Chris McIntyre scored our consolation effort in our first league game of the season. Our Women’s Senior team won their last 16 Scottish Cup tie away to Cowdenbeath 7 – 1, whilst it was a tough shift at the office for the Reserves who, despite taking the lead within the opening 60 seconds, went down 1-13 away to SWPL side Rangers Ladies. |
