Double TopToday will be our 40th competitive game of the season. After only 3 or 4 league games of the current campaign our new group was written off by many outside the Club. Following our festive last minute loss to Stirling University most neutral observers gave us little hope of winning the title. However, with only one week of the league campaign to go, we have given ourselves an opportunity of lifting the title. How? By winning football matches and staying strong in the mind and body. With ourselves and ‘The Welfare’ both sitting joint top on the same points total and Stirling University waiting for a slip-up, the race for the title is going to the last day (which is great for our league). We go to Rosewell today on the back of another significant winning run. We go to Rosewell today unbeaten on the road this season. We go to Rosewell 2-1 up in our ‘head-to-head’ battle this season vs. our great rivals. Of course, none of this guarantees that we will win today…however, it does guarantee that we go into the biggest game of the season so far with a strong collective spirit and nothing to fear…married to a huge amount of respect for Micky, his staff and the players of WWFC. We will enjoy the sense of occasion today and give it our all…as we have done all season. On the player front, just like every other Team at this time of the year some players are playing through injury, whilst others innate hunger and desire is driving them on when fatigue starts to kick in. Three of our 1st team squad – John Grant, Chris Anderson & Chris Flockhart – are all unavailable today…the rest, like everyone else connected with both Clubs, are counting the mins down to kick-off. Lastly, further congratulations are due to our ‘history making’ U17 squad. On the back of becoming the first Spartans YS side to lift the Scottish Cup last weekend, they lifted their 1st local cup last night at Saughton Enclosure. With 2 more local cup finals to look forward to, a truly memorable season could get even better. Sammy |
