An e-Motion-al dayA Motion double married with a Cloudy penalty in the first 25 mins set us up for another vital 3 points yesterday. The late ‘team goal’ finished off by Sean Wringe was the icing on the cake and arguably the best of the lot on the day.Our player’s collective response to our defeat pre Xmas vs. Stirling University has been 1st class….3 league wins out of 3 this year (scoring 10 goals in the process) has enabled us to maintain our position at the top of the table. We know better than anyone that we have played more league games than others and that other sides can over-take us if they win their games in hand….however, we will stay focused on the things we can control. Yesterday’s result took our goals for column for the season to 73 goals, which translates into an average ratio of just under 3 goals scored per game. However, our clean sheet also provided us with a great sense of satisfaction yesterday. The University have a wide range and variety of attacking options and weapons. On the day it was pleasing to restrict the University to shots from distance and the odd half chance in the box. ‘OD’ set a great tone for us early on yesterday (by being positive and aggressive), it was great to see him produce another excellent 90 minute performance at the heart of our back 4. For the next few weeks it’s back to cup duty….starting with a semi-final vs. Stirling University this coming Saturday, something we are all looking forward too. Lastly, it would be hugely amiss of me not to say a huge thank you to Alan Chaney for his kind words and EUAFC itself for the lovely gift I received post match yesterday. It’s no secret I have a huge amount of affection (as does Zorro, Birdy, Cairnsy and Craig) for ‘The Uni’. It was a real honour and privilege to be part of such a special club for so long….to work with truly special people such as Alan, Smithy, ‘The Doc’, Billy and Stewart….and a host of great players. A period of great times and memories. |
