4 goals & 3 reds cards in action packed gameThe Seniors secured our first win of the league season with a convincing 4-0 victory over Gretna tonight at Ainslie Park.Following the last minute heartbreak against Civil, the team started determined and strong as they looked to take control of the game. With the Autumn winds swirling around the ground the ball was moving a lot in the air, ensuring both defenses and keepers we tested early on. We eventually took the lead in the 21st minute. Mark Whatley forced Hyslop to make a great save. The ball fell to Anderson who fired it against the bar. The ball then fell to Whatley again who was able to head home the opener. Mark sadly took a head knock in the build up play and eventually had to go off, replaced by Willie Bremner. We had almost complete control of the game and deservedly extended our lead in the 31st minute when Andy Martin used his pace to break free from the Gretna defense, round the keeper and fire the ball home. Into the second half and it started as a much more even affair. The game however sparked into life when Atkinson for Gretna was shown a straight red for a reckless and dangerous tackle on Chris Anderson. Just a few moments later and Gretna were down to 9 men when keeper Hyslop was shown a straight red for a karate kick lunge on Jack Beesley just outside the box. With no sub keeper Gretna had to turn to second half sub Rudd to step in between the sticks and his first action was to pick the ball out the net. Robbie Manson stepped up to take the resulting freekick and fired it high into the far corner, a kick even a proper keeper would have struggled to get to. We continued to dominate with the two man advantage however struggled to turn our chances into goals. We did get a 4th in the 87th minute though when Jordan Finnie played a neat ball into the box for Sean Wringe to cooly slot the ball home. As the game went into injury time Willie Bremner was shown his second yellow card for what like nothing more than accidentally running into the Gretna makeshift keeper and we finished the game with 10 men. Team: Flockhart, Cennerrazzo, Seeley, Sivewright, O’Donnell (Finnie), Manson, Martin, Whatley (Bremner), Anderson, McLeod (Wringe), Beesley |
