Positive start to our pre-seasonThe Seniors started pre-season with a hard working 0-0 draw with first division side Falkirk.New summer signings Gary Cennerrazzo and Mark Whatley made the starting eleven however Willie Bremner started from the bench having picked up an injury before the game. Falkirk had the first clear chance at goal when Lewis Small ran onto a long ball over the Spartans defence. He made space for himself however his shot went just wide of the post. We had a chance a few minutes later to open the scoring. Gary Cennerrazzo, who looked dangerous down the left side, played an excellent cross into the box. Jordan Finnie managed to turn the ball toward the goal however his shot was saved. The ball fell at the feet of the usually lethal Keith McLeod, however the ball appear to get caught under his feet and it was eventually cleared to safety. Into the second half and the game continued to be an even encounter. Spartans gave game time to trialist as Chris Milligan. Milligan’s game however was cut short when he picked up an ankle injury just 10 minutes from time and Willie Bremner made his debut. Falkirk did have the ball in the net, when they headed home from a freekick however the offside flag was raised and the goal wasn’t given. As the game neared the end and the pre-season fitness was fully tested, it was clear to see there wasn’t going to be any goals and the game ended as a draw. After the match, Spartans assistant manager Neil Irvine said: “It was a really good performance and a great work out against an excellent Falkirk side. We are really pleased with how hard the guys worked out there and were happy to get a good result.” Flockhart (Trialist), Manson, Cennerrazzo, Sivewright, MacKinnon, Grant , Whatley (Trialist 1), Anderson, Finnie (Milligan (Bremner)), McLeod, Wringe (Trialist 2) |
