Stirling Uni win King Cup

Posted on Saturday, May 26th, 2012

Stirling University deservedly beat us 2 – 1 in today’s King Cup final. We started brightly and had more possession but no chances in the opening exchanges. Stirling cam more into the game looked more dangerous without creating many clear chances. Both ‘keepers had comfortable saves to make before just on half time Stirling took the lead. Corr reach the by line and his low cross was hammered home by Sludden. Stirling’s tidy play was ensuring we had little good possession and just on the hour mark they made it two, a great strike from Corr. We threw on three substitutes in an effort to change to the game we did come more into it. Omar Kader tucked home Donal Henretty’s cross with ten remaining. Donal then hit the bar with a header and in one melee we had three goal bound strikes blocked with some great defending. Stirling held on to win the trophy and cap a great season. They have been the outstanding team and have set the benchmark for us and the rest of the league for next season. Chris Anderson won the Malt and Hops man of the match with an attacking display from midfield. Team Flockhart, O’Donnell, Hoskins, McKinnon, Sivewright, Finnie (Kader 64), McLeod (Henretty 64), Beesley (Malin 64), Grant, Manson, Anderson Subs not used McTurk, Donnelly
