Defeats for Seniors and Juniors but Amateurs get point at leadersThe Seniors lost a late goal to hand the title initiative to Stirling Uni who won with a last minute strike. Jack Beasley was ill and hence out of the squad with Jordan Finnie’s groin injury also ruling him out. Scott Fusco came back into the squad. The first half at Vale produced little goalmouth action. Chris Flockhart had to save twice with his feet and despite good pressure and excellent corners from Omar Kader and Dean Hoskins we created no clear chances. Gavin Malin picked up a yellow card just befor the break. We went ahead in the first minute of the second half. A Deano cross was partly cleared to Gavin Malin who volleyed him a great effort from just outside the box. We then played our best spell of the game. Deano came very close when his drive came off the bar, bounced down and was cleared. Vale equalised against the run of play when Scott Moffat netted from close range after a scramble. Ali McKinnon was then booked for a block tackle but the free kick was blocked. The game then opened up with us having most of the possession but Vale causing us problems on the break. The Vale winner came with five minutes left. Ali tripped one of the Vale strikers and Scott Devlin chipped the free kick over the ball and into the net. We brought on Sean Wringe and threw players forward but Vale defended well and seemed inspired by new manager Fraser Ogilvie. Kevin Sivewright won the Malt and Hops man of the match for an assured performance but it was a disappointing day. team: Flockhart, O’Donnell, Hoskins, Sivewright, McKinnon, Malin (Wringe 87), Henretty (Anderson 74), McLeod, Kader, Manson, Grant Subs not used McTurk, Fusco The Juniors went down 5 – 3 to Blackburn United in the league with defensive lapses costing us dearly. A hat trick from Lucas Rusin was not enough for us to win the game. The Amateurs drew 2 – 2 away to league leaders Sandys with Nick Reid notching both goals. We are in a good position to keep our Premier league status which would be a great achievement given our promotion just before the seasons started. |
