Management thoughts on our King Cup trip to Gala

“Sam and I were well pleased with the performance and result today. We gave Omar Kader a rest and left captain Robbie Manson out for the first time this season as we freshened things up away from the rigours of trying to retain our league title. We considered starting with youngsters Sean Wringe and Jordan Finnie up front but having missed last Saturday we decided Keith McLeod needed the 90 minutes and as things turned out all 3 played a big part in the game. Gala played their part and caused us a load of problems early on. Like us they play a passing game on their new surface and it was only after our 3rd went in that Sam and I felt comfortable on the side lines.

Sean Wringe scored the first, looked the part and then gave us all a fright by taking unwell. Thankfully he’s feeling fine this evening but his early departure on 23 minutes saw Jordan Finnie come on and have a huge influence on the game laying on all 3 of Keith McLeod’s goals (on a day when Fernando also got back on the domestic goal scene).

Our defence and team under the captaincy of Kevin “I love a team huddle” Sivewright produced our 4th shut out in a row and the only downside was the late injury to Ali MacKinnon. Hopefully he’ll recover in time for our very important league game against the ever improving Leith Athletic next Saturday.  I’ll be in Spain next weekend but Sam will be reminding the players during the week that Leith were twice up by 3 goals against us in our league fixture at the Academy earlier in the season.

Like today only our best will do next Saturday. More of that later in the week.”
