Great win for Juniors but Amateurs go down

Posted on Saturday, February 25th, 2012

The Juniors beat table topping Fauldhouse with the only goal coming in the 90th minute when Paul McCathie’s free kick went low past the keeper. We had the better chances in the first half when Sean Wringe came close twice, the Fauldhouse ‘keeper pulling off one great stop. We were playing good football in the heavy rain playing down the hill against a much bigger outfit. Fauldhouse started the second half on fire with Ainlsie Hunter heading off the line to keep us level. Murray Jackson then made a great stop low down as we’re struggling to retain possession. As the half progresses we grew in stature and looked more dangerous on the break as Fauldhouse went 3 – 4 – 3. Michael Dick came close went put through by Sean. It looked like a scoreless draw but up popped Paul after Chris Milligan had been pulled down. Team: Jackson, Boyes, McCathie, Sclater, Thomson (Stewart 68), Hunter, Zavaroni, Wringe, Elliot (Cunningham 79), Roberts (Dick 76).
The Amateurs went down 1 – 0 to Heriot Vale in the Cairns Cup.
