Wins for Juniors and AmateursThe Juniors beat Harthill Royal 3 – 2 away in the league while the Amateurs beat Musselburgh 2 – 1 in Round 1 of the Blaikie Cup.We opened the scoring at Harthill after ten minutes when Paul Sutherland knocked home a Chris Rooney cross from close range. The pitch was cutting up badly with little chance of passing football winning the day. Harthill had come close to equalising but the half time whistle came after sustained Spartans pressure when Sean Wringe and Lee Zavaroni both came close. Ten minutes into the second half and we were further ahead. A great Chris Milligan run was knocked home by Lee. Harthill did pull one back with a great free kick however we looked very dangerous on the break and Sean, Chris R and Paul Roberts all should have added to our lead. The third came with ten minutes remaining when Paul knocked home from just outside the box after Sean’s effort was blocked by the ‘keeper. Harthill did pull one back with five minutes to go which meant a more nervous finish than it should have been. Good performances through the spine of the team from Paulo, Chris M and Sean. Team: Jackson, Boyes, McCathie, Sutherland, Thomson, Hunter, Rooney (Laidlaw 73), Zavaroni (Roberts 64), Stewart, Wringe, Milligan Subs not used Atai, Trialist Goals from Andy Hornell and John Hall were enough to see off Musselburgh as the Amateurs continue their excellent run on the stadium pitch. We didn’t play well but we have now gone eight games unbeaten. |
