Wins for Seniors and Amateurs but Juniors go down

Posted on Saturday, January 21st, 2012

The early ko saw the crowd well down on last Saturday as we started with an unchanged XI. The Seniors made a bright start against Selkirk when Omar Kader headed home Dean Hoskins corner. The second came ten minutes later when Omar collected a Robbie Manson cross and tucked the ball home. Omar came under attack from some aggressive challenges, firstly a yellow for a flying tackle against him and then the Selkirk no 2 saw red for a lunge. Selkirk managed to pull one midway through the half when Burdett scored a header. Only five minutes later and Danny O’Donnell drove home a 25 yard drive when a Deano corner was half cleared. Keith McLeod then missed a glaring opportunity before ‘keeper Dodds kept the score at 3 with a great block from Keith.
The second half was a tame affair. Keith again and then John Grant came close but we played at a much lower pace with the points in the bag. Stirling Uni scored a last minute winner to keep the pressure on us at the top of the table in the later kick offs. John Grant won the Malt and Hops man of the match for an assured performance in centre midfield.

The Juniors lost 4 – 1 to Falkirk. We lost an early goal but Chris Rooney pulled one back with a header from a Ross Elliott cross. Falkirk then converted a soft penalty and Connor Armstrong knocked into his own net to give the visitors a 3 – 1 half time lead. Paul Roberts should have pulled be back early in the second period but blasted over. Falkirk then scored a fourth with half an hour to go to secure a win. Team: Jackson, Sclater, (Stewart 65), Boyes, Armstrong (Trialist 79), Thompson, Elliott, Milligan, Rooney, Hunter, Wringe (Trialist 65), Roberts Subs not used Perry, Atai

Tomorrow the EoS 19s take on CSS at Muirhouse in the league with a 2pm ok. The Sunday Amateurs travel to Larkhall in the last 32 of the Scottish Amateur Cup.
